Vanilla Flan:
A Classic That Tastes Like Home
Some desserts have a way of taking us back home with just one spoonful. Flan is one of them: creamy, smooth, and topped with golden caramel that makes it a favorite on Mexican tables.
And while it’s simple to prepare, one ingredient can make all the difference: vanilla. Its warm aroma and rich flavor can turn a homemade flan from an everyday dessert into one that everyone wants to have another slice of.
Today, we’re sharing a homemade vanilla flan recipe that’s perfect for enjoying after a meal, sharing with family and friends, or simply treating yourself.
Ingredients for the Flan
- 5 eggs
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can evaporated milk
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons Los Cinco Soles natural vanilla extract
- 1 pinch of salt
Ingredients for the Caramel
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
Place the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the sugar turns golden brown. Carefully pour the caramel into the flan mold and gently tilt the mold to cover the bottom.
Add the eggs, condensed milk, evaporated milk, whole milk, vanilla, and a pinch of salt to a blender. Blend until smooth and well combined.
Pour the mixture over the caramel. Place the flan mold inside a larger baking dish and carefully add hot water around it.
Bake at 350 °F (180 °C) for approximately 50–60 minutes, or until the center is set but still has a slight jiggle.
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours. To unmold, carefully run a knife around the edges of the flan, then invert it onto a serving plate.
The result: a smooth and creamy flan covered in golden caramel, with the delicious aroma of Los Cinco Soles vanilla in every bite.
Good vanilla can transform even the simplest recipes. From flan to cakes, cookies, or drinks, its aroma and flavor add that special touch you can taste from the very first bite.
